Marcia Mitchell CEO
Shortly after Marcia Mitchell obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education, she returned to her high school alma mater, Edison High School, in Tulsa, Oklahoma and began her career as a teacher. Three years later, her life took a dramatic turn when she resigned her teaching position to give birth to her first child and soon after, began a “faith venture” that would literally change the course of her life. That was 1972.
Today that “faith venture” is known as The Little Light House, a school and ministry to children and infants with special needs. Named as President George Bush’s 536th Point of Light, the unique school has met the needs of hundreds of physically and mentally challenged children over the past 36 years and ministered to all of their families as well. In 2003, the International Christian Accrediting Association recognized The Little Light House as the “Outstanding School of the Year”. That same year, the ICAA also awarded Marcia the “Administrator of the Year” award.
Marcia served as the Executive Director of The Little Light House from it’s inception until 2008, when she was named CEO to allow her to focus her attentions on future expansion plans of the Little Light House, Global Outreach efforts of the ministry and the Little Light House Affiliates (Little Light House Central Mississippi and Little Light House Denton, Texas.)
Having addressed more than 1,000 audiences throughout the United States, China, Hawaii, Mexico and the Philippines, she remains an effective inspirational speaker and strong International advocate for children with special needs. When her schedule allows, she also enjoys leading women’s retreats and workshops on subjects such as home organization, time management, and spiritual growth.
Marcia chronicled her remarkable spiritual journey in her book Milestones & Miracles, an inspirational book that many have hailed as “life changing”.
In June 2008, Marcia was nominated by her daughter, Missy, for the Gold Medal Mom national contest sponsored by Tyson foods. She was selected out of more than 1,500 nominees to be the Tyson Food’s 2008 Gold Metal Mom of the year. As part of the grand prize, she traveled to Beijing for the 2008 Olympics.
Most recently, Marcia was selected to be the Pi Beta Phi 2009 Pan-Hellenic Woman of the Year and will be representing Pi Beta Phi as well as The Little Light House at the 2009 Tulsa Pan-Hellenic Woman of the year honoree luncheon.
